R&D Ingredient Specialist

The Ingredient Specialist is responsible for aiding in sourcing, testing, and qualifying alternate ingredients to both ensure cost savings and uninterrupted supply chain. They will also be responsible for creating and maintaining ingredient specifications.

Responsibilities

  •  Work with new and current suppliers to source new ingredients

  • Evaluate potential ingredients for product improvement purposes

  •   Create & manage ingredient specifications
    - Input into Genesis

  • Design protocol for testing of potential ingredients for recipe optimization and cost savings

  • Communicate learnings on new ingredients with appropriate departments (R&D/QA/Regulatory/Procurement) and become knowledgeable on ingredient selection and replacement

  • Perform shelf-life tests for new ingredients

  • Coordinate line trials with Scheduling

  • Supervise trials and first production runs where new ingredients are used

  • Aid Regulatory in performing risk analysis on new ingredients

  • Request BOM changes in SAP template for changing recipes

    Qualifications


Required:

  • 2 – 3 years of experience working with food ingredients or product formulations

  • Knowledge of functional and nutritional properties of ingredients

  • Knowledge of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Understand the scientific methods and how it applies to R&D and product development


Preferred:

  • B.S. Degree in Food Science or related sciences

  • Working knowledge of experimental design

  • Understanding of sensory science and how to conduct sensory panels

  • Knowledge of texture analysis

  • Knowledge of protein ingredients
